Checking the Size of your mailbox in Outlook 2007 and 2010
This Knowledge based article will assist you in checking what the folder size of your mailbox is. This can be helpful to know if you are planning to do a mail migration, wish to back up to an external device or looking to free up some space.
Outlook 2007
1. Open Outlook and right click on the Mailbox in the navigation pane.
2. Select Properties from the pop up window
3. From the Mailbox Properties window click on Folder Size…
4. From the Folder Size window you will be shown the various sizes of all the subfolders in your mailbox. For a migration or a backup the most important size will be the Total size (including subfolders):
In this example the Total folder size is 711979 KB which is the same size as 695.29 MB (you can find this out by typing ‘ 711979 KB in MB’ into Google search).
One you have recorded this size click on Close then OK.
Outlook 2010
1. Open Outlook and right click on the Mailbox in the navigation pane.
2. Select Data File Properties from the pop up window
3. From the Mailbox Properties window click on Folder Size…
4. From the Folder Size window you will be shown the various sizes of all the subfolders in your mailbox. For a migration or a backup the most important size will be the Total size (including subfolders):
In this example the Total folder size is 829111 KB which is the same size as 809.68 MB (you can find this out by typing ‘829111 KB in MB’ into Google search).
- Once you have recorded this size click on Close then OK.
